Let’s improvise together
Teach me to improvise on music that I know
- Show me how to vary tunes that I know by changing the words (and so probably altering the rhythm)
- Now, to a regular beat, chant different names of the children in a group*
- Now play the game with drums instead of voices: without the words, the rhythms can vary how you want them to*
- On the keyboard, show me how to vary a simple tune I know by changing the rhythm by repeating notes, while you keep a regular beat*
- Now show me how to add extra notes to the tune between the main notes*
- Try to make up new tunes together, with or without words*
*(with help from a musical friend if needed)
